Overstaying in Vietnam? What you need to know

Vietnam is a peaceful country with balance national security in order. We always welcome and respect travelers around the World to come to Vietnam for visiting, work or retirement. However, in order to keep Vietnam safe, enjoyable and lovable, the Government applied lots of strict regulations to many sectors of social security and well-being. One of them is the Article 20 of the Government Decree No. 73/2010/ND-CP regulating on sanctions against administrative violations in the domain of security, order and social safety.

Pursuant to Article 20, the following fines will be applied for overstaying in Vietnam with expired Visa:

► VND 500.000 – VND 2.000.000 for foreigners who enter Vietnam without declaring temporary temporary residence as prescribed or use a certificate of temporary residence, a temporary or permanent residence card in Vietnam which has expired for 15 days or fewer without permission from the competent agency.

► VND 2.000.000 – VND 5.000.000 for those who enter Vietnam without declaring temporary residence as prescribed or use a certificate of temporary residence card in Vietnam which has expired for more than 16 days without permission from the competent agency.
